Gratiot County -- Great Things in the Palm of Your Hand

Rural Character is What Makes Gratiot Great . . .

Why hurry to the far reaches of the state when the relaxed lifestyle you're seeking is only a short drive from home?
Less than an hour's drive north of Lansing, you'll find Gratiot County, Michigan --- located in the geographic center of Michigan's Lower Peninsula.  It's a rural community with small towns and villages offering a pleasant mix of urban and rural lifestyles.  An area framed by open farm fields, woods and natural areas --- this is a place you can call home.  A place that feels right to those who want a slower pace of life; where rush hour lasts a few minutes, not hours; where time is measured in miles not minutes.

A Quiet Lifestyle That's Within Your Reach . . .

In Gratiot County, you'll find a variety of affordable homes.  There's also a great selection of mature living facilities and a top-notch medical facility located in the heart of the county.  It's a thriving community with a diverse economy of small and medium commercial businesses, industry, and agriculture.

Together they create a rural community that's well connected to the rest of the state.  In an hour or less, you can travel to key locations in Michigan:

Grand Rapids M-57 West to US 131 80 miles
Lansing US 127 South 50 miles
Clare US 127 North 30 miles
Saginaw M-46 East 40 miles

Put Your Finger on Fun That's Only Minutes Away . . .

Within the county, there are a host of choices for your leisure time.  Choose from an assortment of public parks, swimming pools, cross country ski trails, or tennis courts.  If you like golf, try one of six courses.  For hikers, there's a wide assortment of trails to explore, including one of the largest wetland preserves in the state along the Maple River.

If you like the great outdoors, you'll like what Gratiot County has to offer.  There's plenty of opportunity for hunting.  State game preserves as well as private areas provide the chance to hunt deer, water foul, pheasants, and other game.  Fishing is also available on a variety of rivers and streams.

Where Main Street is Still a Main Place to Shop . . .

Off the beaten path, a few minutes from the freeway exits, you can still find Main Street with its historic buildings and one-of-a-kind businesses.  Stroll the sidewalks and take time to experience a variety of offerings from the traditional hardware store to specialty shops.  Once you're done browsing, be sure to relax in one of our local eateries.

An Education System Built on Small Town Values . . .

Gratiot County has kept pace with the changing technology in education while preserving its small town values.  Six public school districts and three private schools offer K-12 education.  Also located in the county is Alma College, a nationally rated four-year private college.  Plus you'll find several community colleges and college satellite offices with classes.

Point Yourself Toward Things To Do And See . . .

Whether it's summer sun or winter fun, Gratiot County has lots to offer that's away from the crowds, but close to home.
